Port Stanley in Southwest Ontario
On one of our last trips we explored Port Stanley again and were surprised by all the changes and improvements. We loved what we saw and I am seriously spending here some mini vacations with my wife if her health has improved after several surgeries. My son and his girl friend already did this when they visited us from Germany.
Naturally tourists from far away needs an accommodation and almost everybody - except my wife - needs something to eat. These places should put advertising in a travel guide. My priority is to attract potential visitors by showing them different places including unique things to see or to do. I use many pictures as a proof - but not images from a clip art gallery which could have been taken everywhere. I also install links to YouTube videos of others people which want to promote our province. This is very valuable help especially for me who is handicapped and hearing impaired. Many thanks to all the donors!
Nature and the chance to explore a different culture for everybody from far away countries is an other mandatory task to prevent disappointment or frustration is another priority for me.
I will not use big mouthed slogans such as "the friendliest town of Canada". I found many very friendly people everywhere but also other ones.
You will not be disappointed
I think Port Stanley has not lost its character like many other places who had torn down older but attractive buildings for a short sighted promised profit without completing the work. Port Dalhousie in St. Catharines is only one example!
Luckily Ontario did some good work in protecting the environment. We do not have any longer coal fired power plants but unfortunately we did the same costly mistakes when introducing green energy as so called leaders in Europe did years ago. A little bit more brainpower and good management skills could have avoided the dramatic boost of the costs of electrical energy.
I am aware that many tasks cannot be achieved without the cooperation of the United States. The new short minded US-Führer seems not to be a good partner.
Please believe me Southern Ontario is attractive not only for nature lovers and our Provincial Parks are a refuge.
Unfortunately I cannot do any longer hiking tours and Elizabeth my wife is very slowly recovering from some serious surgeries. She was always a great help when we travelled as and explored certain regions of the world. She loved to take many pictures which I used as well as her exciting reports. Just check our travel guides for Newfoundland and Thuringia.
Fortunately my son and his girl friend a regularly visiting us in Ontario and both of them are also a great help by doing things which I cannot do any longer.

An old lighthouse
All coal fired power plants in Ontario have been shut down. Electrical energy is provided mainly by hydrodynamic power, nuclear power, wind power and some solar power.

Some interesting information about the historic train
Participate in a ride!
Life entertainment is included in the ride
The track was opened in 1856 and connected London with Port Stanley. It was suspended in the fifties of the last century. Today only short trips are offered for visitors.
Please ask for actual information.
Die historische "King George VI Lift Bridge"
If you are lucky and patient you can see this bridge in action. The embedded YouTube video shows this event!
Naturally I passed the bridge several times over the years. I never had to wait!
When it is really hot and humid explore the town in your car and stop at interesting points if possible. Don't take any risk if you are older. Take it easy and enjoy!
Es gibt recht viele interessante Restaurants
I was not hungry and without my wife I decided not to be adventurous. I grew up in Europe where restaurants post their menus outside. This should become a law in Canada. After some bad experiences I am not ashamed any longer to go in and ask to see a menu before I sit down. I walk out If I do not like what they offer. It is my money and I reject to be trapped. Do the same!
Still some people on this beach
During September temperatures can still go up to 30
When I passed the harbour I was wondering where all the people came from. What a difference to Port Ryerse!
