Waldmünchen has at least one thing common with München (Munich) - it is located in Bavaria.
"Schlossberg" means mountain with a castle - I would say it is more a hill. But that would not sound so impressive.
Despite that it was certainly no fun to attack any castle.
Today the castle is still used. It serves as an educational and learning institution for the youth.

Waldmünchen - many thanks to "Dknopf68" and Wikipedia
Waldmünchen is very close to the Czech Republic. We post boned a visit because we were running out of time. There was so much to see and I was happy when Elizabeth tried to speak German. Across the border none of us would have understood a single word and we did not know wether English would be of any help in little places which we prefer.
Waldmünchen is pretty big - it has a population of about 7000 and an infrastructure which I wish we would have in our area in Ontario.
The "Erlebnisbad Aquafit" (adventure bath) is one of the attractions. We regularly spent lots of time in a similar facilities close to Zorneding where we lived. For that reason we did instead of going there sightseeing and exploring the town and its surroundings.
Visiting Thuringia later and feeling slowly our age we changed that and spent as much time as possible in real spas. Not everything which is called a spa in Ontario deserves this title!
Franz von der Trenck - many thanks to "unknown" and Wikipedia
A scene from "Trenck der Pandur"
With our "luck" we missed a very popular annual event in Waldmünchen. "Panduren" Colonel Franz von der Trenck conquered in 1742 the town. (Pandur means guerrilla fighter or mercenary.) According to my judgment he was not a pleasant character - I consider him as a war criminal.
Now a historical spectacle is performed by local people who have fun to participate in it and attract visitors to Waldmünchen. It is called "Trenck der Pandur".
Trenck was the leader of a bunch of former soldiers which were robbing places, murdering people and doing other bad things around the middle of the 18th century.
These outlaws did lots of damage in the area around Waldmünchen.
The open air performance with the castle as background shows some highlights of his adventurous life, his admiration of the empress and his love to different women.
Check the Internet for more details - I am not a historian and I got fooled already when I saw a movie about him where I got the impression that he was a good guy with lots of fun.
Naturally the annual event will not show any violence it is a tourist attraction. Just use the installed link below to see some details in a video..
We have visited similar historical events in Ontario - mainly in Fort Erie where volunteers had lots of fun to bring not so funny bloody battles back to live. Just visit our travel guide for Ontario if you are interested.
Many thanks for pictures to the Tourist Board of Bavaria and involved communities
