Even when we cannot travel to Germany at this time I felt the urge to update our Internet travel guide for Bavaria. Many memories come back when I go through the handwritten notes from my wife Elizabeth. Most of our own pictures got lost when our computer was stolen. For that reason I use Wikipedia as a good source for images which I can use. Also many thanks to all the other people, organizations and communities who helped me. The images are not the same. Many of them are even better but I use only those of places which we had visited. Many thanks to all our supporters. Previously I had merged our travel guides for the "Upper Palatine" and "Lower Bavaria". into Eastern Bavaria. To ease up navigation I have divided them now. I also will try to add a little bit of Franconia later. I grew up there and we visited some places when I tried to show Elizabeth Germany and especially Bavaria when we lived there or went on shopping trips for our small business. Map of Upper Palatinate:
 The Upper Palatinate is divided in Independent Cities and in Regions or Districts as Wikipedia calls those. Our Internet travel guide follows this for easy orientation and by using available maps.
I think it is mandatory to do that. Even when most government funded organization which promote tourism don't share this basic knowledge. The Alps, the famous castles built by King Ludwig II, the lakes, the scenery shown in many movies were essential to attract people from everywhere.
When we visited the Upper Palatinate for sightseeing I realized that is still some kind of a hidden treasure. Just follow our Internet travel guide and use the Internet to get more and actual information, such as for events or festivals, prices, accommodations etc. The Upper Palatinate is not only a paradise for hikers - it offers also lots of history and culture. You will find old castles or ruins from them everywhere. Churches, monasteries, museums are always waiting for your visit. Try and enjoy the local food. You do not need always sunshine to be busy. Naturally, you can find always accommodations. With a few exceptions all forests in Germany are open to the public. They are not fenced in and you will find no signs which prohibit trespassing and scare you off with all kind of warnings.
