Tutzing is well known throughout all of Germany because of its famous "Evangelische Akademie" (Lutheran Academy) and the "Akademie für Politische Bildung" (Academy for political education). It is located on Lake Starnberg.
We were not able to visit either and learned about both by reading. We just did some sightseeing and felt sorry that none of the two major events for which Tutzing is also known took place when we were there.
One is called the "Fischerhochzeit" which means fishermen's wedding and takes place every five years, the other one is the "Fischerstechen" based on a historical contest and is celebrated every year.
Both events are part of Tutzing's past when it was a small fishing village.
These events are colorful with boats and occupants bedecked in period costumes.
If you feel the need for some exercise "climb" to the top of the "Ilka Höhe" where you will be rewarded by the view of Lake Starnberg below.
Tutzing can be reached from Munich with the public transportation system.
