Coat of arms Tirschenreuth

Map Tirschenreuth Region:

I haven't been in the Tirschenreuth Region for a long time and could not remember too much. I regretted this because I was not a good guide for Elizabeth. Almost everything was also new to me.
But the great nature helped me to cover that up.
Especially the Waldnaab surprised us always with spectacular views. I think to explore this creek wit a kayak would be fun.

Then we visited Markt Falkenberg on the Waldnaab. The castle caught our attention.
This castle is one of the oldest ones in this region. At least some of the remains.
The castle had ben conquered and badly damaged by the Swedes during the Thirty Years' War.
After that, the castle started to fall apart and stones had been taken away for other buildings until it has been protected as a historical monument.
A complete renovation was done between 1936 and 1939 by the duke "Friedrich Werner Graf von der Schulenburg". We were also told that it was used during WW II by the Gestapo to keep selected prisoners.
It is still used - not as a fortification but as a place of living and for events. The castle is now owned by the community Markt Falkenberg and became a cultural center.

In Neualbenreuth we spent about 3 hours in the Sibyllenbad.
It is normal that you pay for the time which you stay in such a spa. We were amazed what we found there at this time. Even "Healing waters" were offered for free.

I had to ask for a permission to take pictures. But all of them dispeared with our stolen computer - so I use some from other sources. The picture below must have been taken after our visit.
Please use the Internet to find the official web site in English. Obviously many improvements have been done since our visit.
When you visit our Internet travel guide for Thuringia you will see how much we enjoy similar spas today.
The "Sibyllenbad" in Neualbenreuth

Please be aware that you are in Europe. The dress code for using a sauna different to that in North America - normally you go nude, men, women kids. No beauty contest - you can be fat or skinny.
