 Normally we started in Oberaudorf
Elizabeth became so addicted to the "Tatzelwurm" that we came back a few times.
Sophia Pacheco describes in the "Encyclopedia Mistica" a "Tatzelwurm" as follows:
"Also known as the tunnel worm, jumping worm or mountain stump. The tazel worm, a worm-like lizard about two to three feet long with two or four short legs, is said to be so poisonous that even its breath could kill a human. It is also said to be very agressive, attacking anything that moves. Rumored to live in the Alps, some say that it can jump two or three yards in one bound. Its scales are supposedly so thick that blades cannot pierce them."
However, the European "Tatzelwurm" does not meet this description. Obviously several variants are known similar to the "Wolperdinger". This animal still lives in Bavaria. Ask wether you can join a photo safari.
First you will find a first class restaurant which even provides accommodation and the statue of a "Tatzelwurm" |

I know a different definition of this creature and I was wondering at that time when I was looking at this replica of a "Tatzelwurm" whether this artist did not know that it should have a cat's head. Eventually he used newer results of the "Tatzelwurm" research program which were not yet accessible to me. Please do some more research!
After you found a spot to park your car, we recommend that you do first the walking and sightseeing. Wear good shoes or sneakers - no high heels! |
You need this that you do not feel guilty when you enjoy either a good meal, a "Brotzeit" or just some pastry in the restaurant.
Even when you can't compare the water falls with those of Niagara Falls they are still extremely impressing because of the real natural surroundings.
We hope that you found parking close to this place because you may be exhausted after climbing up and down the hill. It is not hazardous but if you are out of training and out of shape you will know that you have a body which is not built for that. |

A very impressive scenery which no photo can catch |
Needs quiet a bit walking to get there
Have a good view from the bridge!
 Breathe the clean air |

After this exhausting adventure walk you certainly will ned a rest. Sit either on the patio of the good restaurant and select something from the menu or only a tree trunk and relax.
Even Elizabeth did not argue with me to get some of our lost energy back in form of food and a drink. She was talking about crazy Bavarians when she saw people transporting their kayaks down the mountain. So I asked her "What would you do? Driving down the falls?"
That would be a height of about 95 m or 310 feet.
With every trip to "her" mountains Elizabeth wanted to live here. However, when I was called back to Canada she forgot all that and was really happy to be close to her parents.
Now we try to see more from Canada and we both love to do that. Newfoundland-Labrador are an unforgettable experience. |
These falls are higher than the falls of the Niagara river
