Sonthofen
Sonthofen is known for the so called "Ehemalige
Burg". It is not a real castle or "Burg". The "burg" was built during the Nazi regime as a so called "Ordensburg" where party members received some
training. Later it was converted to an "Adolf Hitler Schule" (school), after that it became a hospital for soldiers until the end of WW II.
Today the complete area is used by the German Bundeswehr. (army)

The "Ordensburg"
|
| Park your car and walk through the village. In the pedestrian area you will find the old "Marktbrunnen".
This fountain was part of the old water supply system which consisted of four wells.
Close to the "Marktbrunnen" was the pillory where in older days criminals were chained down and displayed to the public.
Unfortunately nobody is practicing this cost efficient and probably successful penalty any longer in Bavaria.

Please try to follow our old tracks to the "Starzlachklamm" or ask for directions. We think it will be still as breath taking as it was when we were there. It is the attraction of this area and you should not miss it.

The "Starzlachklamm" |
Watch your kids that they do not fool around and don't drop your camera. After having survived have a refreshment at the "Klammwirt".
Nature will never disappoint you
In areas like this, Elizabeth did not want to stop walking. I always had a hard time convincing her to have a rest and do some thing to replenish the lost calories. We normally ended with a compromise because even I could not withstand exploring some of the trails. In a place called "Bachtl" you may find people who are practicing free treatments of a "Kneipp Kur". Just see what they are doing and try it. I think it's much better than a diet. Ask for directions. You will find it at the end of Sonthofen when you walk or drive in the direction of "Altstädten". The best is you try to get information about all the attractions of this area and the walking trails in the tourist office of Sonthofen.
