Map of the Unstrut - Hainich Region:

Most cities offer clean public wash rooms. This applies also for the "Autobahn". We give this advice because you will not see too many fast food restaurants which do this essential service in North America.

Major cities provide guided tours for visitors and we always take advantage of this service.
The problem starts when you want to participate in a guided tour in the English language. Major attractions, such as the Wartburg should not have any problems, but when my wife wanted to collect some English information in the tourist office from Suhl there was not a single person who could provide any help.

Unfortunately also most museums leave you without help. Self guided tours in English are unknown. We offered translation service, but never received any answers. That is a shame - really very interesting small museums provide information only in the German language.
Most of these places are also hard to find on the Internet for English speaking people.
However, Wolfgang our tour guide in this funny street car spoke a very good English. He is doing these exciting tours through Mühlhausen since a few years. The first tour I took alone, our second one together with Elizabeth.
We both had fun rolling slowly through narrow streets and taking pictures. The tour was a great help were to go later.
Mühlhausen can be compared with world famous "Rothenburg ob der Tauber", but tourism is much less commercialized. We liked that, but the town needs more guests.

Graffiti everywhere - even in Mühlhausen

Mühlhausen is not yet as commercial as Rothenburg ob der Tauber

Already in Canada we received the permission to pamper ourselves for free in the "Thüringen Therme". Please visit our special web site.
We show her only a few pictures.

I don't think that below picture shows the public transportation offered in Mühlhausen. It does not look like Amish people either. I think it must be just for fun.

Mühlhausen

When I visited Mühlhausen for the first time I was immediately falling in love with tis town. For that reason I came back with Elizabeth my wife and she became also addicted. Next time we should stay overnight there.
We had lots of fun in the "Thüringen Therme". For that reason we missed to see many highlights of this town.

On the way to the treetop path

The treetop path is not far away and you should not miss to visit this unique attraction. We created a special web site which gives you many information.

The Treetop Path

The path is even accessible for handicapped people in wheelchairs. You have breathtaking views and also the displayed art work is an attraction. Elizabeth took many pictures.

Art work at the treetop path

I visited Bad Langensalza the first time on my own when my walking was still a possibility for me to move around and without major pain.

Bad Langensalza - I walked all the way!

Bad Langensalza - then I need a real gyros and an ice cold wheat beer

The friendly chef
Here you can see how a real gyros is made

Major construction work was going on in a part of Bad Langensalza when I toured it.
I am still amazed how fast everything in former east Germany was rebuilt. Naturally help was needed to do that.
The bad thing is the still high unemployment. Most of the old industry could not any longer compete.
High tech industry started now providing jobs and students love to study in the new states.
In Thuringia the solar industry is already a major employer.
I hope that our little travel guide will help to attract more tourists to Thuringia. We would love to do that also for other states of Germany but that is just a dream.
Bad Langensalza has also a health spa. It is called "Friederiken Therme". We never got a chance to visit it. Use the Internet or contact a tourist office for more information.
Ask there also for guided tours.
Very close to Bad Langensalza is the "National Park Hainich" with the treetop path. Visit our web site to see how e enjoyed it there.
