Already in Canada I had contact to a B & B in Bad Frankenhausen. However, I was not able to make a firm reservation because of my uncertain schedule.
When I arrived nothing was available.
Bad Frankenhausen is a perfect place to stay and to explore the many well known attractions which surround this city. For that reason I was happy that I could find another accommodation here.
I visited the "Panorama Museum" which was built under the communist system. It shows a monumental painting of the peasant's war. It is really impressive and you should not miss it! I also visited the "Barbarossahöhle", a cave located in nearby Rottleben. I almost got a heart attack when I walked up to the "Kyffhäuser Monument". I was not aware that there is a shuttle service by a horse drawn coach available. Please browse through our respective web sites.
In Bad Langensalza I found a nice place for lunch and dinner and explored also the city. More about this in our travel guide.

Please consider the possibility to have a comfortable coach ride from the restaurant at the parking lot to the mountain top.
I hope that you will have as much luck with the weather as I did. A spectacular sight will be the extra reward!

There is so much more to see and to do in and around Bad Langensalza. There is also a health spa in the town and I received a coupon for a free visit. Unfortunately there was no human visible and I failed to talk to the ticket vending machines.
As almost all places in Thuringia nothing wa overcrowded in June and the prices were reasonable. Always keep in mind that the posted prices include all taxes and in restaurants even the tip - which does not mean that you should not give your waiter or waitress some extra money if the service was good.

I did not have any problem in finding a parking spot in Nordhausen. It was conveniently in the middle of downtown and I hardly could see any visitors. My pictures confirm that.
First I walked briefly around. Nordhausen has only a population of about 44 000. Being about 1000 years old there is lots of history to explore.
This day I was not in the mood to do that. I hoped to be able to come back. This was a mistake - I never did!
Please learn from my mistakes.
I discovered a nice looking restaurant with a patio. Because it was lunch time I decided to have light meal here. I selected spaghetti with meat sauce. I did not want a beer so I ordered with it a cola made in Thuringia. It came without ice but was nor so terrible sweet as what we get in Canada.
I was very pleased with everything and enjoyed the sight from the patio. Everybody seemed to stay at home because I could only see a few cars and hardly any people walking around. Maybe the introduced siesta time in Nordhausen?
