I visited this region together with my son in January. The weather conditions were really bad - it was raining when we left.
Not suitable for any winter sport or other outdoor activities. A day when you normally stay at hone or in you hotel.
But we had decided to drive to Saalfeld to visit the Fairy Caves or "Feengrotten".

We had to stop at the chocolate store!

Sonneberg was very famous for the toys which were produced there.
Immediately after the unification of Germany we visited some of the companies which were still in business and purchased samples for our store. All products were of high quality but the products from China were much cheaper and we could not compete.
I visited Thuringia and my son in January and was attracted to Sonneberg by the German Toy Museum (Deutsches Spielzeugmuseum).
I spent hours there and was allowed to take pictures. Please visit my web site for more information.

The museum shows toys from all over the world. This includes also the history of toys. You will be surprised. Have you ever seen toys from ancient Egypt?

Sonneberg

The "Thüringer Kirmes" was created for the world exposition of 1910. I am aware that now much money has to be spend for restoration of this unique attraction. The figures are almost life sized.
