Map of the Wartburg Region ("Wartburgkreis"):

The Wartburg Region does not include Eisenach with the famous Wartburg where Martin Luther translated the new testament into German. The explanation is that these regions were not created for tourism but for administration.
Similar to Ontario Thuringia has also tourist regions but also no helpful maps and even the official tourist site does not follow any tourist regions. They use a completely different concept. I believe when you travel you want to know what is offered in the area where you are. For special interests, we have created a searchable data base which allows you to search for cities, certain attractions etc. However, without having business paying for that service there will be some gaps. But this applies even to government funded sites.
We show you some impressions of Eisenach here. We have visited this city several times and we still find new things to see or to do. Poor weather is not a reason to stay in your hotel to watch German TV. Get out - Thuringia is really exciting all year long, except on Mondays when certain places are closed.
Browse through our travel guide and don't get frustrated about a few dead links. As soon as we have the money for another trip we will do some updating.
Please visit also the web site about my visit to the Wartburg. I had joined a guided tour in German, but they were also offered in the English language.
An USA company even offers reformation tours which follow Martin Luther's foot steps.
Naturally, our first task was to visit Eisenach and the Wartburg - so we give you a glimpse here in this page.

"Martin Luther" speaks in an old fashioned German
Whenever we travel, we want to combine sightseeing, fun, good food, relaxation, meeting people etc. We try to be open minded and do not expect that everything is the same as at home.
We talk to the locals, listen to their advise. We discuss things with them and very often we even get invited. This was so in Germany, in Newfoundland-Labrador and in Ontario.
We booked tickets for a fun event in Eisenach already in Canada. It was called the "Lutherschmaus", a medieval feast as it was celebrated at Martin Luther's time.
Martin Luther is not only well known as a reformer, he also loved certain worldly things and his language would not be accepted today unless in certain movies.
It was really and unforgettable evening. Please be prepared to gain many calories and skip lunch. Our special web site gives you a little bit of an impression. We recommend that you book a room in the hotel or in a place not too far away.

Don't miss to visit the "Bachhaus"

Fun and health we experienced in Bad Salzungen. We got two complimentary tickets for the "Keltenbad" (Celtic Bath). and we loved it immediately. All pools and the sauna are on one level.
We came back a few times and we discovered with every visit some thing new, like a great restaurant.
We were also invited to special events, such as a half marathon which ended here. The "Pummpälz" hiking path was another attraction which was shown to us.
Just visit our respective web sites to see what we experienced.

Elizabeth and I visited also together the "Pummpälzweg" a newly created hiking path. See or specific web site for more information.
Many fairy tales which Walt Disney had missed to discover can be read on different stations.
I became aware of this attraction when I had an excellent lunch in a restaurant called "Zur Scheuer".
I wanted that Elizabeth to meet the nice and very knowledgeable owner.
Unfortunately, he missed a business and Elizabeth to meet a very interesting man. The place was closed because the owner needed also vacations.
For that reason we had an excellent dinner somewhere else.
