In tiny little Bad Colberg I discovered during my first visit related to tourism a breathtaking Spa.
It is called the "Terrassentherme Bad Colberg". It was my first visit to such a place and I was impressed.
I went a couple of times to this place because I loved the various pools. Not so impressed I was of the sauna after having seen some other places. Also the access and the offering of the small cafeteria was sub standard.
Obviously this was also recognized by the operators because excessive renovations were scheduled for 2007 and the place shall reopen end of march 2008.
More details about this place you will find in our web site for Bad Colberg. I did not prepare a detailed web site because nobody from the management was willing to talk to me or to respond to e-mail. |

 Castle "Heldburg" |
Close to Bad Colberg is a small town with name Heldburg. I included this place also in our basic tourist guide for Thuringia.
It is really a nice place and we had dinner in a local restaurant. Please visit the castle which carries the same name, but not on a Monday what I tried.
Is still could walk around to take some pictures and the administration was very helpful by sending me some requested information as well as some pictures of an event.
I gladly will come back to improve my web site for this great attraction. |
Sometimes you miss something or the weather is not good for taking pictures, so I am always glad to get some support. Many places in Thuringia helped me, but others such as in Jena, Masserberg, Oberhof and a few others did not. I think their philosophy is: "If you do nothing, you cannot do anything wrong".
Thuringia is mostly Lutheran. Martin Luther translated the bible when he stayed on the Wartburg. Just browse through our detailed travel guide.
Even reformation tours are scheduled from The USA to follow Martin Luther's foot steps.
It is always interesting to visit local churches.
Elizabeth took the picture of the church shown on the right but I not sure which church that was. |

We all went to visit point Alpha where during the cold war the Nato and the Warsaw pact were facing each other.
We believe that you should visit that place to get an impression about the situation at this time. We created a web site with a link to the official English site.
On our trip to this "Memorial Place" we stopped at many interesting spots. One of them was Hotel "Katzenstein" which is located on a mountain top.
This hotel was originally built by the Nazi regime and served to provide low priced accommodation for party members and also for workers.
After the war Americans used briefly the hotel. Later the Russians too over and after that the East German police. after extensive renovations the Est German secret service, called "Stasi" took over and used in a similar way as the Nazis.
After the unification the ownership changed a few times and today it seems the hotel seems to do well.
We arrived very early and did not have coffee or lunch, but we enjoyed the gorgeous surroundings.

As you can see, we had beautiful sunshine in June. Actually it was some kind of a heat wave. We were glad that the car had air conditioning. Due to the global warming most cars seem to be equipped now in Germany with this almost mandatory accessory.
 Little natural ponds attracted Elizabeth
Normally every little bit of wetland is protected as a refuge for animals and plants
Wetlands are not used as garbage dumps or to drain them to built houses on them. Some communities even include little natural looking ponds as an essential attraction into the public parks.
She became a little bit afraid when the cows showed interest in her
The prices of the hotel are very reasonable. Much cheaper that a B & B in Ontario. Hiking and biking in the surrounding area, called "Natural Park Rhön" is certainly very relaxing. Many attractions are close by.
 Bed & Bike
No wonder that everybody liked it here
