When Elizabeth was me, she preferred to go to the state-of-the-art-spas, to hike, to see animals and take pictures of the nature or people she talked to.
This was always a great help for me, because of several accidents and my age walking is not any longer on of my priorities.
Very often, we went independent which also increased the efficiency to prepare our travel guides. We did the same in Newfoundland - Labrador for our guides in the German language.
However, to "Kloster Veßra" we went together.
Please visit the web site which we prepared for this place.
It does not only show buildings and machinery from the past, there will be also concerts and other events. It is open all year long. But stay away on Mondays - many attractions are closed all over Thuringia on this day.
I have visited this place in January and you can see in our specific web site that this water wheel is covered with ice. |

 "Kloster Vesßra", animals everywhere
A variety of animals is kept in this place to make it as authentic as possible. Elizabeth was in heaven and talked to all of them in English. I think they understood as much as an average Thuringian citizen.

Whenever we stopped Elizabeth discovered something beautiful. You should see her garden! I really believe the plants love her talking to them. How can they grow so nicely in downtown Welland with all the air pollution? We have raccoons, an opossum, stray cats, a skunk, squirrels, birds and who knows what else living there.
In addition our three cats made a peace treaty with the mice which occasionally find a temporary refuge in our house. |

I do not complain - I also love nature and beautiful sights. The Thuringian Forest is an attraction for hikers, nature lovers and in winter for all kind of winter sport. Only snowmobiling is banned to protect the animals and prevent pollution. For that reason do not bring your snow mobile with you, but skies, snow shoes, skates are fine.

Elizabeth and I visited also together the "Pummpälzweg" a newly created hiking path. See or specific web site for more information.
I became aware of this attraction when I had an excellent lunch in a restaurant called "Zur Scheuer".
I wanted that Elizabeth to meet the nice and very knowledgeable owner.
Unfortunately, he missed a business and Elizabeth to meet a very interesting man. The place was closed because the owner needed also vacations. |
