Civic arms Neuburg-Schrobenhausen region

Map of the Neuburg-Schrobenhausen Region:

This region is something for people who prefer not to be part of a big tourist crowd. I loved areas like this where special attention is given to you and where you still can enjoy many things, starting with an exciting nature, culture, history, fun and last not least good food. For us it was very convenient to combine a trip to the "Altmühltal" with a visit of this area.
If you like bicycling you are at the right place. Special paths for this sport are almost everywhere.
Biking
If you don't like to use a bicycle path, the country is open.

We never took our bikes with us because it was too much trouble to transport them with our car, so I had to walk again.

Antique train
Something we want to do when we come back
This antique train will take us on a pleasure ride through the valley of the old Danube. I am confident that we will have fun. The train starts in Rennertshofen which is very close to Neuburg and takes you, as far as I know, to Weilheim with its ruins of an old castle.

Elizabeth was surprised about the difference which she could see in the houses, the villages, even the roads compared to those in her beloved mountains. She was also surprised to see black soil. But she loved it, especially when we reached the Donau (Danube) and could watch the birds and just enjoy nature.

This castle was originally a hunting lodge which was built by Duke Ottheinrich for pleasure. Obviously the old style of hunting is still being practiced. Elizabeth would not participate, even if we were invited. Luckily that will never happen and I must not face the proof of my statement.
Grünau
"Schloß Grünau"

If you love to visit old churches, don't miss the church in Bergen. It is called "Klosterkirche Heilig Kreuz" (Monastery Church Holy Cross). It is located in the nearby Eichstätt Region.
You also can visit caves, called the "Mauerner Höhlen", an outdoor museum in Kleinhohenried-Karlshuld and naturally bogs. The largest one is around Karlshuld.

Many thanks for pictures to the nice people from the Neuburg-Schrobenhausen region and the Tourist Board of Bavaria
