It was during our trips through this region that Elizabeth saw for the first time in her life hops which is one of the essential ingredients of real good beer. So far i also never saw any hops growing in Canada, but our country is so big that there may be some places which I do not know.
When I was still a student picking hops was a real good paid job. However, I found always a temporary job in my home town Nürnberg (Nuremberg). I assume that today machines will be used.
Nevertheless the local beer was excellent and I enjoyed it with my meals. A pork roast with pop or coffee is not part of the Bavarian life style. Wine will be accepted.
Please carry always cash with you - many of the smaller restaurants will still not accept credit cards. Have also a dictionary with you that you can figure out the menu. Otherwise you must live from sauerkraut, pizza, bratwurst or wieners. Also please do not ask for ketchup when you have potato dumplings on your plate - some other guests may become sick by seeing that.
