Coat of arms Regensburg region

Map of the Regensburg Region:

Even as a schoolboy and later as a teenager I had visited the Regensburg Region. Our destination was the "Walhalla" in Donaustauf on the river Danube very close to Regensburg.
The mighty building was designed with the Greek temple of Parthenon in mind and built by the Bavarian king Ludwig I. (not Ludwig II!) Ground breaking was in 1830.

The "Walhalla" in Donaustauf

Similar to the "Gedächtnishalle", located close to Kehlheim in Lower Bavaria, this monument was built to honor famous Germans after the defeat of Napoleon.
As a child I was impressed. Now, I considered it more or less as a museum to honor famous German people of the past.
If you are staying in Regensburg you can go by boat on the river Danube, by bus or with your rental car. Just ask a tourism office for details.
When you travel through this region, you soon will be aware that you are in an area where the catholic church is dominant.

We followed more or less the Danube and came to Wörth. We went to the castle but did not participate on a guided tour which has to be booked if you want to see the interior.
We were told that a part of the castle is used to accommodate seniors. We did not ask for the price to live there!

On our way to the Schwandorf Region we discovered another castle in Wolfsegg which was very impressive. We were tired and we wanted to find a reasonable accommodation in nearby Kallmünz. So we could not spend too much time in Wolfsegg.

We were lucky and found a suitable place to stay over night in Kallmünz. It was a "Pension" - the equivalent to a B & B.
The next morning we did some extensive sightseeing and we loved what we dicovered. We could have easily steyed here for few days but your time was linited. There is so much to see and to do. Two rivers the Naab and the Vils, again ruins of an castle, cozy restaurants, galleries and much more.
We decided to come back to spend some more time here - unfortunately we never could keep our promise beacause I was called back to Canada.
We can only watch the video to see what we could have done in addition - please use the link below.
