We were addicted to this area.
Elizabeth's 75 year old dad is a Canadian veteran, and when he visited us in Germany, we naturally had to show him
the Obersalzberg and the Kehlsteinhaus where Adolf Hitler spent some of
his time.
The road is not public and we had to take a special tour bus. Then you must walk through a tunnel and use an elevator to reach eagles nest.
The "Eagles Nest", now a restaurant
We were all very impressed with the magnificent view and understood why Adolf Hitler used it as his retreat.
A great view and a starting point for hand gliders!
Plan for a full day's adventure, especially when you are an army history buff or veteran. Make sure you have lots of film and charged batteries for your video camera. Postcards and souvenirs are always available.
Then we returned to the present and watched young people jumping from the mountain top with their para gliders and were awed by the view of the Königsee. The hand gliders also kept our continuous attention. They were like huge colorful eagles which disappeared slowly into the blue.
 "Almabtrieb"
If you have luck, you may see an "Almabtrieb". This is when colorfully decorated cattle return from the mountains.
The region around Berchtesgaden is always exciting - in every season.
Winter scene
You can do so many things, mountain climbing, walking, biking and other sports, sightseeing or just having fun. You can participate in health programs and much more. Special attention has been given to keep the little ones well entertained.
