The Neumarkt Region is known for its castles. For more information you can purchase a booklet. (Burgenführer, ISBN 3-920142.14.4) Unfortunately, you should understand some German because to my knowledge, no English version is available.
When I was young and lived in Nuremberg, I explored many of them.

Another exiting attraction is a dripstone cave, the "König-Otto-Tropfsteinhöhle" which is located close to Velburg. The cave can be visited between April 1 and October 31. (guided tours only)

There is so much to discover, get some information from a tourist office. Tell them what you are interested and they gladly will help you.
