Miesbach
Miesbach is another typical Bavarian village with an historical downtown. Naturally, I had to walk again when Elizabeth decided to go exploring and window shopping. It took us quiet a while, because the display of every store had to be screened carefully. We had discussions which item would make a nice gift and we compared the prices with those in Canada. Even considering that the shown prices included the value added tax, everything seemed to be more expensive. She was impressed with the quality of the articles and realized that this is the reason for the higher costs. She is still wearing jeans that were purchased in Miesbach.
Elizabeth can also spend hours to check out flowers and vegetables
Every Thursday there still is a "Viehmarkt" (cattle auction). Maybe you are lucky enough to be touring through the village when this event is occurring.
When we visited the above market, we did not see any cattle for sale but it was still an adventure because of the atmosphere around us. Finally Elizabeth gave in and I could have my beer and Bavarian food.
I had a special beer in a stone (I think I had two)
Please order a local dish, you will not be disappointed. Food and service and the beer were excellent. Be aware that even when you eat more than normal (what I did) walking from and to the parking lot and sightseeing takes weight off. I didn't gain anything during my last trip through Upper Bavaria.
