Coat of arm Kastl

It was not only because of the "Klosterburg" (a monastery which looks like a castle) or because of the romantic valley of a small creek called "Lauterach" that I visited Kastl over and over and showed it also to Elizabeth.
I memorized many events when I was young and started together with my friend to explore the area around Nuremberg.

I think you can see why I loved to visit Markt Kastl

Very popular on the Lauterach
We had always a good time and both of us enjoyed nature and sightseeing.
Watching people Kayaking brought also back the time of my childhood when I was the only kid in our village which had one. It was very light and made out of wood.
Everybody asked me for a trial ride and I had the greatest fun watching them capsize as soon as their paddle touched the water.
No comparison with the heavy plastic kayaks which Elizabeth and I tried in Canada on Lake Ontario.
We never asked wether you can rent a kayak or a boat here. Please do this if you are interested. Elizabeth had fun on Lake Ontario.

Kloster Kastl (monastery)- many thanks to "Klaus Graf" and Wikipedia

Markt Kastl was mentioned the first time in a document from pope Paschalis II in 1103. The "Klosterburg" was a monastery until 1556 for Benedictine monks.
Don't miss a visit!

The "Klosterburg Kastl" - many thanks to "Luftaufnahme aus"

Markt Kastl has a population of almost 3000 and is prepared to welcome visitors who do not expect high life but nature, being active and interested in culture and history.
We do not want to confuse you, but there is another Kastl in Upper Palatine. This located in the Tirschenreuth Region. A part of our Markt Kastl is a village called Pfaffenhofen (there are also few more places with this name in Germany) which is known for the "Schweppermanns-Burg".
There was always an event called the "Schweppermann Spiele". It is based on an historical event which took place in 1319. We did not see it and you must contact Markt Kastl about details if you are interested. The actors are local people and the play was performed in front of the "Klosterburg".

The Schweppermanns-Burg in Pfaffenhofen - many thanks to "Luftaufnahme aus"

Please visit Paffenhofen. I hope the great aerials will convince you to spend some time there and to learn something about the related history. There is also many things to see.

Many thanks for some of the pictures to the Tourist Board of Bavaria and involved communities
