Dining like Luther - a medieval feast, called "Lutherschmaus" in the "Eisenacher Hof" in Eisenach, Thuringia

Part 2

After having some food indulged the honey wine was served.
Each party received a horn filled with this cool beverage to share it. The task was to drink until it was emptied. We - a party of four - had some problems to achieve this because we had already some drinks before this event took place.

More food was served after. Even Elizabeth, my wife - a temporary vegetarian - found enough to eat. She eat most of the fresh made salad, the vegetables and surprisingly she got addicted to the crusty bread.
Marie-Luise (on the right), my sons girl friend is obviously faking to drink when she holds the horn. Elizabeth did not touch it at all because of medical reasons. But you must not get drunk to have fun and their was no reason to stay thirsty. Non alcoholic beverages are getting more and more popular in Germany because of the strict laws against drunk driving.

A skewer with different barbecued lean meat was one of the main attractions. It was served with a variety of bread, potatoes, noodles and vegetables.
The Thuringian "Bratwurst" was delicious

As you can see everybody had fun. Not too much alcohol was consumed because of the strict laws against drunk driving.
The four star hotels offers also accommodation.

We enjoyed the various interesting breaks which were part of the gorgeous "Lutherschmaus". Some added some fun, such as drumming to medieval music, others were presentations of written words from Martin Luther. Unfortunately, even I could not understand everything what was said. I will try to get a printed version of the speeches.
The costumed servers were multi talents. Whenever you needed something they brought it. On top of it they gave the speeches I already talked about and invited people on the little stage. I was one of them.

Have you ever seen young people dancing to medieval music? Dancing to it on a table? It was a complete new experience for us. All that was initiated by the staff of the "Eisenacher Hof" and the bikers participated nicely and added lots of flavor to this unique event. Also the elderly crowd enjoyed it very much.
Nobody went overboard or violent. It was a nice evening but we all were really tired after so much food and because of the 2006 heat wave which already had started in Germany with very unusual temperatures.
On top of it we were so stuffed that we had problems to get up and move.

The big finale of the "Lutherschmaus was a skewer with various fruits soaked in alcohol and served burning. I wish it would have had double the size - it was so good!
