My first knowledge of Lindenberg was when I was a teenager. I loved the cheese which came from here but I did not have any idea how it looked like until I visited it with my moped.
I do not remember too much about that visit and when I came with Elizabeth many things had changed.
Lindenberg - many thanks to "Daniel Josef" and Wikipedia
Naturally the historical buildings including the churches were still there.
We also read some information before we arrived. Lindenberg had suffered severe damage in 1634 when Swedish troops burnt down major parts of it.
Today Sweden is one of the most peaceful countries I know and nobody will have any bad feeling against visitors from Sweden making vacations here.
The impressive Catholic church "St. Peter and Paul"
Hutmuseum - many thanks to "Bildsymbol123" and Wikipedia
Don't get fooled when you see the "antique" church "St. Peter and Paul". It is pretty new. Ground breaking took place in 1912!
Certainly Elizabeth would have been one of the first customers when in the years 1656 the first straw hats were made and sold in Lindenberg.
It took about 100 years until the production of hats became an industry.
Nothing but the museum shown on the left and an annual event called the "Huttage" where a "Hat Queen" is being elected keep the former tradition alive. The event takes place in April and we visited Lindenberg during a shopping trip in November.
Anyhow, I would have preferred to visit the "Internationale Käse- und Gourmetfest" where not only cheese and other delicatessen from the Allgäu but also from other countries van be tried and purchased. I love good food festivals!
When we saw these pictures we felt immediately in love with the surroundings of Lindenberg.
We should have come during summer and not in the worst month of the year.
To rent a bike would be a good idea to do sightseeing- but Elizabeth was still not really comfortable with biking. She had previously made a few crash landings in Zorneding.
Lindenberg it was not a real town to me - it still had so much of the old village of yesteryears.
Naturally, we tried some cheese there, but also other specialties. We liked everything.
You should also explore the surroundings of Lindenberg, not only to admire and to talk to cows. There are many other things to do when the weather is nice.
Go to a local farmers market and buy some food for a Bavarian "Brotzeit" which you can enjoy as a picnic.
Nobody will arrest you when you have a beer with it in the public on a parking lot or somewhere else. We did that too.
That is part of the German "Gemütlichkeit".
Please collect some information before you get started.
I was still trying to convince Lizzy that biking is better than walking
Whenever Lizzy met cows she talked to them in English
Many thanks for most pictures to the Tourist Board of Bavaria and involved communities
