Explore the Lindau Region Swabia, Bavaria Germany, Tourism, Travel Guide
Map Lindau Region:
The Lindau Region is blessed with beauty.
Lake Constance, the mountains and an healthy environment attract many visitors.
After we had done a sightseeing tour through this region we explored Lindau and after that we drove to Baden Wurttemberg along lake Constance.
We were on a shopping tour to the Black Forest for artists dolls and cuckoo clocks.
It was not exactly pleasant time for this trip. I combines it with a business trip for the company I worked for an took Elizabeth with me. It was November and as I remember most of the pictures I took looked very dull.
So i am really glad to be allowed to use the help which was provided to me with great images.
Röthenbach (Allgäu) - many thanks to "Lindenberger" and Wikipedia
Röthenbach (Allgäu) - many thanks to "Richard Mayer" and Wikipedia
Nonnenhorn is nicely located on Lake Constance. It is also called a "Weindorf" which means a village dedicated to wine. We think it would be nice alternative place to stay over night if you don't find accommodation in Lindau.
The region is also well known for its dairy products. Elizabeth still talks about the "Continental Breakfast" she got in the Allgäu. Good bread, fresh sweet butter, yoghurt, all kind of cheese, soft boiled eggs, cold cuts, her "bird food" (muesli), fruit juices and good coffee. She had so much for breakfast that she didn't need any lunch.
Ski jump in Scheidegg - many thanks to "Jeses" and Wikipedia
Scheidegg is today one of the favorite destinations of many visitors at any season. Hiking, biking, skiing, guided tours are the main activities attract them.
We were surprised to learn that it is assumed this village could be established under a different name as early as the 5th or 7th century.
Naturally we could not see any remains from that time so we had to believe it.
Similar to many places in Canada the railway helped Scheidegg end of the 19th century to attract tourists.
Did you know that many cows vacation up in the mountains of the Alp? Not only in Germany!
They stay there for many months during summer. Such places are called an "Alm" where they graze.
The return of the cattle is always a celebrated event. It is called "Almabtrieb" which is naturally also used as a tourist attraction.
Cows are everywhere in the Allgäu
Wasserburg seen from Lake Constance - many thanks to "Enslin" and Wikipedia
Stiefenhofen - many thanks to "Clemenspool" and Wikipedia
You can find good accommodation almost everywhere.
If you want to save money forget about the big hotel chains in well known places for tourism. Little hotels, bed & breakfast, guest houses (Gasthöfe), camping etc. offer normally better deals.
We always did that except camping. Especially in November we had sometimes a whole place for us alone and got the best personalized service and on top of it advice what to see and to do such as things which were not advertised everywhere.
We only had to order our meals sometimes in advance when we wanted to have something special.
In November the winter sport season had not started - it begins around Christmas and you may need advanced booking.
We never spend together time in one of the places which we had visited during winter. When we had finally decided to try cross country skiing I was called back to Canada. Here we tried ice fishing and snowmobiling. Both are not too well know in Bavaria.
Many thanks for pictures to the Tourist Board of Bavaria and involved communities
