On our way to Lake Constance (Bodensee), we often passed Landsberg. Elizabeth was always fascinated with this medieval town on the river "Lech".
As I learned, it was a town as early as 1280.
The shown "Bayertor" has been renovated and is considered to be one of the most beautiful gates in Southern Germany.
I told Elizabeth that Adolf Hitler was imprisoned here before he gained power. This is where he wrote the book "Mein Kampf" which is still banned in Germany.
We went on our own sightseeing tour and discovered many more exciting relics from the past.
For me, growing up and living in Germany for many years, it was normal to find buildings that were hundreds of years old and still in use. It is common practice to preserve your heritage and to take good care of everything that was built or constructed by our forefathers.

Elizabeth was so impressed with this philosophy that she argued after our return to Canada, with all those people who demolished a 50 years old city hall, because it was considered to be a safety hazard. Needless to say, a new city hall was built. Don't ask me whether the quality of service has improved since everything was moved into the new location.

My son loves also Landsberg and joined us once
The "Hexenturm" (Witch Tower)*
I read that the "Witch Tower" was originally built in the late 13 th century as part of the wall that protected the town. After it's destruction it was rebuilt at the end of the 14 th century and served as a jail in the following years.

We decided to go into this restaurant
After walking so much we all needed a good meal!
Downtown Landsberg *
The "Mutterturm" (Mother Tower)*
I was also surprised to learn that this tower was almost brand new. It was built between 1884 and 1887 by Hubert von Herkomer in remembrance of his mother.
Unfortunately, we did not have time enough to visit the museum inside. We postponed this to our next visit. But we never made it, because I was called back to Canada.
* Many thanks to Rolf Burgdorf for helping me with some of his pictures!
