Already in 2004 the "Keltenbad" or "Celtic bath" how the official translation calls it in English, draw my attention when I visited Bad Salzungen.
Thuringia seems to be a paradise for spa lovers. Almost every larger community offers state-of-the art spas for health cautious people. It is a must to show some of them in our Internet travel guide.
As I learned the "Keltenbad" offers almost everything which you can think of for relaxation and keeping you healthy and in good shape.
You enter all of the facilities through this beautiful antique looking - but new - building. Check for special offers. Sometimes you may be allowed to stay for an unlimited time or free exercise classes are offered.
Don't hesitate to bring your children with you! This spa offers also great fun for younger people.
After browsing through our web site you will know what to expect. Please do not pressure on yourself by booking a too short stay. You are in vacation and a little restaurant will prevent you from starving.

The ancient celts were spread all over Europe. The various tribes used languages which were based on Indo-European languages. According to my information they did not leave any written documents. Just check the Internet for details if you want to know more about them.
The "Keltenbad" is certainly an excellent reminder to the tribes who lived here. For that reason most features of the spa have Celtic names - but in German! I will not try to translate them.
We were immediately impressed when we entered the pool area. We loved it that almost everything was on one level and that we did not have to climb stairs to reach the different areas. Not all spas are designed so friendly for handicapped people. Only one patio is located on top of one of the buildings.
The main pool is full of surprises. At specific times water jets start and push you around. This is announced by loudspeaker - but only in German. If you are afraid leave the pool and see what happens first. The water is only 1.35 m (4.4 feet) deep.

Participate in the free of charge exercises when they take place. You will be amazed how just one day in the "Celtic bath" will improve your feelings about your general condition. You realize what you have missed by not doing any physical activities and start to enjoy it. We did so, indulged lots of good food and lost weight.
It was interesting to watch little kids getting familiarized with the water. A teacher or instructor took good care of them and we were surprised how well the little ones behaved. No screaming, yelling or fighting - but still having fun!
The water temperature in this pool is about 32° C or 90° F. No wonder that they did not feel cold.
Explore the pool. You will discover all kinds of water jets or water pouring down from special spouts. All these free body massages really helped us.
Please do not miss to check all the other treatments and services which are offered in the "Keltenbad". Not everything is included in the basic entry fee!

The right picture shows a part of the "gradier house" where you can inhale salt enriched air. This treatment is used when you suffer under asthma or experience other bronchial problems. Ask your doctor!

The strange looking figures are not ghosts or aliens from outer space but visitors of the gradier house. All of them are wearing these special coats.
We believe in the good effects of salty air. During our visits to Newfoundland and Labrador we got lots of it and we loved it. If you are in Bad Salzungen in Thuringia it takes only a few steps to the Keltenbad to get these and other benefits for your health.
Don't forget some reading material. You should always have some time to relax without doing any physical activities.
Comfortable loungers are placed everywhere. You even can take a little nap. Everybody behaved and their was no loud noise. Luckily, smoking is not allowed within these great facilities.
We are really thankful for the advise to spend at least one day in the "Celtic Bath". We certainly want to come back whenever we return to Thuringia.
