When we visited "Point Alpha" in the "Wartburg Region" we passed through the small medieval town of Kaltennordheim which is located in the "Rhön" another forested area which is shared between the states of Thuringia, Hesse and Bavaria.
Unfortunately, we did not have enough time to visit the museum of local history which has moved in the castle. May be at another time. We do not love to rush through things.

The town gate which we passed to reach the castle

A landmark of Kaltennordheim is the huge linden tree which is over 500 years old. Germans love their forests and normally they will never cut down an old tree. Bylaws restrict this even in your own garden.
In the background is the castle. I went in, but it was still to early in the morning and everything was still closed. We would have lost too much time if we would have waited and we did not know how much time is required to see everything in "Point Alpha" our destination for today.
Elizabeth and I want to come back to spend more time in the "Rhön" which is quiet different to the Thuringian forest. I hope our wish becomes true.

On our way we had previously stopped to get some baked goods as snacks if we became hungry. There was no need to visit the well known "Schloss Cafe" in the castle despite the fact that it is always a pleasure to explore a pastry shop and try something new. After returning to Canada I did not like any longer the weak coffee which you normally get here and the baked goods which are too sweet. No wonder that I always loose weight when I get food in Europe which is not loaded with sugar or grease and growth hormones.
