Ilmtal, Thuringia, Germany - Tourism Travel Guide
Ilmtal includes various communities
I was not aware when I started to explore Thuringia that many of the tiny little places in the Ilmkreis (Ilm Region) formed the largest municipality with the name Ilmtal which means the valley of the river Ilm.
Because I missed to take pictures in those places or did not even stop I am thankful to Wikipedia because I think that other visitors will so the same mistake I did and are only visiting the better known places.
In Ontario I started now to look for little hidden gems to add more flavor to my travel guides in English and German.
Gösselborn - many thanks to Wikipedia and Michael Sander
in order to find all the places you must enlarge the Google map to find them.
Hopefully your rental car is equipped with a GPS. The car I used wasn't and I also did not know about the small agricultural villages which form the municipality Ilmtal.
Now I got the information by using the Internet nand list al for you:"
Dörnfeld an der Ilm
Certain villages and whole regions from Thuringia want to join prospering Bavaria. My son moved for similar reasons already his company back to Bavaria - not back to expensive Munich but to Mellrichstadt in Lower Franconia. The reasons for him were the high business taxes and certain policies.
However he still loves Thuringia and he sends me pictures from his hiking tours with his girl friend. Some of the even in the Ilmkreis.
I will eventually prepare a slide show to give you an impression and hopefully motivate you do .the same

Castles and ruins from castles are always an attraction for most visitors - including us.
When I made an extensive motor cycle tour to Spain beautifully renovated castles offered accommodation. We slept in a tent and missed that.
I found a castle close to Meiningen which offered something similar but I preferred to stay with my son. Use you chance of you get one!

I was always amazed how fast the infrastructure of the new states in the united Germany was improved. That included also private houses and historical buildings such as churches.
Houses which had been built hundred of years ago are nicely renovated and a used by small business and also by tenants.

Singen Museumsbrauerei - many thanks to Wikipedia and Matthias
I am a born Bavarian and I love beer. In Singen you can visit a working beer museum that still uses the old historical equipment. They still supply their beer to a few selected inns.
But naturally you can try their brew also at the museum and purchase a few bottles to take back. Please do not store it for too long. Beer does not get better by aging - it is the same with me.
