I have to admit that we did not do excessive travelling in the Günzburg Region which is know as the "Swabian Baroque Corner".
You will find many small towns and villages filled with culture and vibrant life. You can not only spend days sightseeing and visiting historical buildings, many of them churches - you can also be active. Golfing, horseback riding, water sports, tennis, squash, bowling, skating and much more is offered.
Krumbad - many thanks to "Martin Egg" and Wikipedia
We discovered this health spa very close to Krumbach, but I can not find it on our Google Map.
We still have the dream to go on a "Kur" (health treatment) in Europe. Some of our Canadian friends did this. But I am afraid it will always be only a dream.
It was very popular in Germany but health care costs are also going through the roof because of the aging population and cut backs took place.
Krumbach is a little town of about 12 000. It lost its status as a district town several years ago. All the regional administration is now the responsibility of Günzburg.
We did not stay very long in this pretty town. Only for a brief coffee stop and a sightseeing tour by car.
I could not find too much in Elizabeth's handwritten notes.
A chapel in Kammel- many thanks to "Martin Egg" and Wikipedia
A fountain in Krumbach - many thanks to "Johann" and Wikipedia
Krumbach historic town hall - many thanks to "Wassily" and Wikipedia
Castle in Leipheim - many thanks to "Dr. Eugen Lehle" and Wikipedia
Leipheim is even smaller that Krumbach. It has not even a population of 7000. It is located at the river Danube. We were offered a guided tour through the town which would certainly have been fun also for Elizabeth, but it was only offered in German so unfortunately we did not participate. I would have learned many things about this town and its history.
For example more about the background of the so called "Kinderfest" which is took place until today in July since the citizens made a promise to celebrate the end of a severe famine at the beginning of the 19th century.
We always loved the hospitality which you experience especially in areas like this which are not overcrowded with tourists.
If you share our thoughts, please collect more information about this area and we are confident that you will have a good time if you spend here a few days.
Also many thanks for some of the pictures to the Tourist Board of Bavaria and involved communities
