Feldafing is a relatively small community on the West side of the "Starnberger See". The little villages of Garatshausen and Wieling form a part of it. One of its attractions is the panoramic view of the "Roseninsel" (Rose Island) and the Alps.
If you ever have heard about "Sisi", the famous and beloved Bavarian princess and later Austrian empress, please visit the island. She grew up in the area around this lake and the island was the place where she met Bavaria's King Ludwig II.
Feldafing and the "Roseninsel"
The "Roseninsel" (Rose Island) in Lake Starnberg - many thanks to "Petermann" and Wikipedia
Take a ride on a small wooden boat to the little island and become more knowledgeable about "Sisi" and the history of this place. I was informed that a big marketing campaign is in progress to start with many articles related to her but I never followed up.
I still do not know whether her name is "Sisi" or "Sissi". You will be able to find both. Please speak up if you can help me out.
Enjoy not only also the magnificent scenery, take in a round of golf on the perfectly manicured golf course found there. This sport is growing in popularity, despite the roadblocks throwing up by the extreme environmentalists.
Feldafing had one of the forest golf courses in all of Germany
Villa Waldberta in Feldafing - many thanks to "Jürgen Howaldt" and Wikipedia
Artists which are working on cultural projects for Munich will be accommodated here in this villa. Certainly a nice place to stay.
I learned that between 1945 and 1953 a camp in Feldafing provided housing for Jewish survivors, consisting of mainly women from Hungary. I was surprised to learn that the camp had a hospital, schools and theatrical groups. Even newspapers were published there.
