Quite unexpectedly, I reached the famous "Merchant's Bridge" and the "Krämerstrasse." This is only one of the many landmarks of Erfurt and the only bridge of its kind in Europe.
The bridge is lined on both sides with a variety of stores and small business places. I almost felt drawn back into medieval times.
In knew that my wife would love to go shopping her. For taht raeson it was one of our first places to see when we both csme to Erfurt in summer 2005.
The "Krämerstrasse" which is located on the Merchant's Bridge
Since 1975, when Thuringia was still part of the "GDR" (German Democratic Republic), an annual festival was started around the bridge in June. Soon it became one of the largest and best-known events in Thuringia. You can see street theatre, musicians, medieval entertainment, a unique market and much more. (As much as we would like to, we will not be able to participate in this festival this year, as we have already planned a trip to Labrador.)
This view shows that the Merchant's Bridge only spans a small creek
I agree that Erfurt is one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Germany or more correctly, it was not destroyed as much as others by bombing during WWII.
If you are seriously interested in learning more about all the buildings and their history, as well as about anything else related to a planned visit to Erfurt, you should contact the "Tourismus Gesellschaft mbH" (see page 1 for the address). They promised me to provide this kind of service.
By contacting them, you will be much better prepared and hopefully you will not miss anything.

Martin Luther in front of the Merchant's Church | I realized very quickly, that you would need several weeks to learn, see and experience what Erfurt has to offer.
Many different types of all-inclusive package deals are available, depending on your interests, such as The Medieval Erfurt Experience. It is not our intention to show everything in our travel guide which we prepare without any financial support. So far, everything has been paid out of our own pocket. We depend on the privately operated tourism businesses and hope for advertising and contracts for web design after this web site is completed.

 More walking
Naturally, I got very hungry from all the walking and talking. As much as I love the Thuringian specialities - on this day I wanted to have something different. I selected an Italian restaurant and ordered one of the cheapest dishes from the menu - "Spaghetti Bolognese" and of course a beer, followed by coffee and a dessert. All together, it was no longer cheap, but it was good.
 Finally food
 I have to come back
