Eisenach is a must for everybody who visits and travels through Thuringia. If you are interested in history, art and culture reserve at least one day just for touring the Wartburg, learning about Martin Luther, Johann Sebastian Bach and others.
 Visit the "Bachhaus"
I have been previously several times in Eisenach and I always had beautiful weather. Unfortunately, I did not take any pictures at that time. When I came back in January 2004, it was pretty cold and it was already late after having visited the Wartburg. Please check our site about this attraction which you should not miss to see.
However, enough time was left to do some essential shopping of gifts and to visit the "Bachhaus."
Eisenach is so fascinating that I will hopefully come back and have a chance to spend more time.

I always like the traffic free pedestrian areas
My wife Elizabeth and I had visited the Bachhaus years ago again. Besides the Wartburg it is one of the major attractions of Eisenach. Johann Sebastian Bach was born in Eisenach but I am not sure whether he was born in this house. I have to find out.
 Bach everywhere
Many thanks for the picture to B. Neumann and the Thüringen Tourismus GmbH
I found parking, paid a fee and was hoping that I did not exceed the allowed time. Fortunately, the "Bachhaus" was only a few blocks away.
Please use the installed links to see my web sites for the "Bachhaus" and the "Wartburg."
If the weather is suitable walk through the medieval downtown. The town is over 850 years old. Don't try to do this by car. Impatient drivers behind you will honk their horns or tail gate you.
We recommend that you visit a tourist office and ask for guided tours. I personally want to learn more about Martin Luther.
I had a brief chance in 2006 when we participated in a medieval feast in Eisenach, called "Lutherschmaus". Martin Luther was known for enjoying good food and his language was sometimes questionable according to todays standards. This event was an unforgettable experience. Just use the installed link to our site about this adventure.
If you have problems walking - get a ride on a donkey when visiting the Wartburg
 The Wartburg
Unfortunately these donkeys had their day off when I came in January and visited the Wartburg - so I had to walk which was not a pleasure for me.
Sometimes when I visited Eisenach after 2004 it was raining. If you love to go shopping this is the right place and time for you. But please compare prices. I am not a shopping monster or born to shop but I got the feeling that you pay some surcharge when your do this in Eisenach. But that is the same all over the world when you are in well known tourist areas and you do not find verry often so many good stores conveniently located close to each other.

Please check our web site about a medieval feast with live entertainment in Eisenach. It is called "Lutherschmaus&quuot; and we had a good time. We recommend that you stay in Eisenach and do not any driving after you had all the food and the drinks. Skipping lunch before you participate is not a bad idea.
Martin Luther said: "He who loves not wine, women, and song remains a fool his whole life long." So be prepared!
We did the booking for this event already in Canada.
