Our Dillingen is located on the river Danube. (There is another Dillingen in Germany.)
However, you will not see big boats here because the river is still too small to be used as an international waterway. You must go downstream until Kehlheim to experience that.
Small boats you will find there. Take advantage of the public parking lots, browse through the old town and enjoy sightseeing.
Ask at a tourist office for printed information about the many attractions and events.
Take a break in one of the local coffee shops or little restaurants, relax and decide what you want to see.
Dillingen has a population of a little bit more than 18 000 but offers a lot of history and culture. The town museum, churches, the castle and much more. |

You still can find traces of those.
The interior of the church had been renovated between 1970 and 1972. A new organ was added in 1878.

 Dillingen with the castle today
The castle is one of the landmarks of Dillingen and is open to visitors. It hosts exhibitions, craft markets etc. Please ask for directions because it is not shown in the Google Map.
Already in the 10th century an old castle was the center of this area with a market which was little by little growing into a town which was called Dillingen in 1264.
In the 15th century alterations and renovations were started and soon the castle became the largest and nicest residence in Swabia.
Today also some government offices are located here. |
