The Cham Region hosts most of the "Naturpark Oberer Bayerischer Wald" which can be translated with "Natural Park of the Upper Bavarian Forest". This park extends into the "Schwandorf Region" and has borders to Czech Republic, and the "Natural Park Oberpfälzer Wald" and "Natural Park Bayerischer Wald". The unspoiled area with its forests, small mountains and romantic valleys attracts tourists all year long.

Especially hikers will enjoy the numerous paths. They will see many rare plants and animals. Close to Cham is a bird sanctuary.

The highest mountain is in the Bavarian Forest is the "Große Arber" with an height of 1439 meters or 4721 feet.
