If you have been fortunate enough to see the movie "The Boat" or have read the book you know that the author of the book is "Lothar-Günther Buchheim" and the film was based on it.
He lived in Feldafing on Lake Starnberg.
Originally he wanted to open a museum in this village. For reasons, unknown to me the community rejected this project.

After a long struggle Lothar-Günther Buchheim decided to establish the museum, called "Buchheim Collection – Museum of Imagination" here in Bernried. It became very fast a great success. Many thanks for that to Bernried from Canada!
In 2007 "Lothar-Günther Buchheim" passed away. Unfortunately I never met him.
We have seen "The Boat", both in German with English subtitles and a new released version in English. I also read the book in German. Normally, I prefer always the original story.

I hoped that we could see him when we visit the museum again. But he passed away and we still did not have the opportunity to come back to Bernried.
There is so much to see and to learn. I wanted also to purchase some signed books in the gift store. I never had a chance to get the last books written by Lothar-Günther Buchheim.
Please visit the official web site of the museum by using the installed link or search the Internet.
The exhibits change permanently and we can only give you an impression.

We recommend a visit of this museum if you are interested in art.
Lothar-Günther Buchheim himself was not only a writer, he was also a well known painter. Even in his eighties he was still very active.
The museum contains various categories. You can see folks art from all over the world, paintings, sculptures, a section for children and much more.
Guided group tours in English are offered. Please use the Internet to check the official web site for details.
Please do not forget to spend also some time for sightseeing in Bernried. Bernried am Starnberger See gained awards as one of the most beautiful villages in Germany - I am always skeptical with such things who has seen all those places and can memorize them. But this village is really pretty.
There are many historical buildings including churches to discover.
For example the church shown below dates back to the year 1122.
Ask for printed information and events in the tourist office.
Relax in a beer garden or a "Gasthof" (restaurant). There are nice places in this village. Just explore!
