A visit to the Bachhaus in Eisenach, Thuringia, Germany

Part 1

Thuringia praises itself always as the green lung or the green heart from Germany.
I believe that especially for visitors from overseas the abundance of history and culture is a reason to come to this state. The great nature will give you a chance to unwind a relax between all the sightseeing and joining events.
Eisenach, a medieval town, and its surroundings are a place where you can spend days in doing all this.
Elizabeth my wife and I had visited the Bachhaus the first time in the early nineties. She is still talking about it and naturally I visited it again when I revisited Eisenach in January 2004. The house is dedicated to world famous Johann Sebastian Bach. It was established in 1906.

The Bachhaus in Eisenach, Thuringia

Bachhaus, Eisenach, Thuringia
Badly damaged during WWII

Address:
Bachhaus Eisenach
Frauenplan 21
99817 Eisenach Phone: 001 49 3691 7934 - 0 Fax: 011 49 3691 7934 - 24

As you can see the house was badly damaged during WWII. When you visit it today, you will not see anything of that any more.
Johann Sebastian Bach was born in Eisenach and members of his family lived in this house in earlier days.
The house is also a museum for historical instruments and the great attraction is that you listen to them in a demonstration.
Guided tours in English language are provided, but we recommend that you contact the museum in advance. You do not want to travel thousands of kilometers and become disappointed.

You will find many information about the Bach family. Naturally, everything in German. Please ask if you need any explanations.
You can see authentic furnishing of the time around 1700 when Bach lived.
Elizabeth tries to furnish our living house in a similar style. However, she would not like to miss the TV and all the utensils which make housework easier. But I believe that the richer people had all housekeepers and staff who took care of all the things which we have to do today by ourselves.
Don't forget to have a view from the windows on the town.
Ask for upcoming events in this historical place. You do not want to miss something only because you forgot to get the necessary information.
Please visit also an US-web site about Johann Sebastian Bach.
