Thuringia is blessed with many health spas which have been built after the unification of Germany. A visit will show you that health can be combined with fun.
We always love to combine exploring culture, history and sightseeing with a relaxing afternoon or evening in one of these facilities. They are also a great escape when the weather is not pleasant for other activities.
The Avenida-Therme gives you a touch of Spain. Artificial and natural plants, as well as a fishing boat in the pool give you this impression. Lots of free parking is provided in a great natural setting.
Our web site is not intended to replace the official German site which contains all essential information about pricing and ongoing events. Our site is just a thank you for free admission and the purpose is to share our excitement about a wonderful afternoon there.
If you are wondering why we do not show many people - the reason is that the management experienced obviously trouble when pictures were taken by others. We gladly complied with this demand.

All pools in the Avenida-Therme are filled with warm sweet water. I could not smell any chlorine what means that mainly ozone is used to keep it free from bacteria and other hazardous pollutants. The water is only 1.35 m (4.4 feet) deep what means that you can stand everywhere. The water temperature allows you to remain for a long time in the pool without feeling cold.
Explore the interior of the little volcano. Not only kids have fun doing so!
The little ones enjoy also the small water slide which ends here. A larger one is provided for adults and teenagers.
Especially in winter you will appreciate that you can swim from the indoor pool to the adjacent outdoor pool which was even feeling warmer. Nothing is better than to breathe the clean air provided by the Thuringian forest.

Behind the fishing boat and below the little bridge is the access channel to the outdoor pool.
We always found nice company to chat with. Surprisingly occasionally even somebody who spoke English.
After lots of swimming or just by staying in the water your appetite may grow. A little restaurant which serves both - the pool area as well as the sauna section offers various light snacks, ice cream and all kind of beverages.
Unfortunately a part of this food court in the pool area is reserved for smokers. I know that all kinds of government levels in Germany are now also working on laws to ban smoking in various places. Not too many people question any longer the hazards of second hand smoke.
Such a law may take off the burden from the owners of the spa to make a tough decision.
To use the various indoor and outdoor pools which include hot tubs, the different saunas, the water slides is accomplished by special treatments to improve your health or beauty.

Different medical massages are offered including the in Germany well known "Rhassoul-Bad" (everybody is using a different spelling) where "healing earth" is rubbed into your body to peel off old skin. Special oils are used after that procedure. Ask for the other skin care programs!
Another favorite treatment is the so called "Hamam-Bad" which is very relaxing.

Elizabeth, my wife would have certainly used one of the special offers. However, she was already back in Canada because of her job as a nurse.
I enjoyed instead on the wet bar two refreshing drinks with fruit juice and some taste improver in it.
As in most spas you must not carry any cash or a credit card with you. The key for you locker contains a chip which allows you to enter the sauna area if you paid for it and to purchase food and drinks. When you leave the Avenida-Therme you must pay the balance.

Every spa we have visited has a so called "Strömungskanal". This is a channel in which you either can try to swim against a powerful current or - what most people do - just enjoy to be pushed around and around. The water jets are not all the time running so watch out. If you have little children with you don't leave them alone.

Here you can enjoy a nice massage of your back and shoulders. Very often there is a rush to this special kind of shower which is also not continuously running.
By exploring only all the features you easily can spend an hour. Relax and always remember ho much you paid to come here. Pay for extra time if you like it.

The whirl pool is always a preferred spot. We had most the time a nice communication with other visitors. They were normally wondering how we found the way from Canada to Thuringia and especially in this spa. I also received compliments about my good German.
It was really relaxing and all my back pain seems to go away. I told that I was feeling like a potato being boiled.
I learned that the Avenida Therme also offers on every last Friday of the month (Except June to September) in the sauna are a special event for relaxation. It starts at 7:00 pm and includes belly dancing, oriental music, tea and scents.
Hopefully, we have sometimes a chance to experience these oriental secrets. Certainly, I do not want to drive a longer distance after such an event, but reasonable accommodation is available everywhere.
