When you visit Canada and Ontario you should consider to stay for a certain time in a cottage. It is a good way to learn more about our life style and our beautiful nature. We will show you what toe expect.
Naturally, there are differences between the various cottage resorts. Some have a restaurant, others not. The cottages may be differently equipped, some are more suitable for handicapped people than others and naturally prices and location must be compared. This applies also to hotels.
Cottages are in demand. You must do your booking in time.
Even we did that and I hate planning vacations. I want to be free and do not want to commit myself to schedules.
Most of our cottage vacations we enjoyed in the "Rockview Camp" on Lake Nipissing. We have been there in late summer and in winter for ice fishing.
The camp is located close to Callander in the former tourist region "Near North". |
On of the larger cottages which we rented when Elizabeth's parent came with us |
Our little cove |
Rockview Camp had its own little sandy beach which was very close to our cottage. It was very clean - not litter or dead fish which you can find occasionally somewhere else.
We always had beautiful weather and even in September the water temperature was so warm, that even Elizabeth, my wife, went swimming.
Only whenever we visited the close by city of North Bay we experienced rain. As soon as we came back to our cottage it stopped and the sun was out again.
Lake Nipissing is very shallow and the few children had great fun at the water.
There is also a playground for them, but we came normally not during the high season and it was very quiet.
We did little tours - just browse through our web site. |
Elizabeth is getting ready |
We had rented one of the smaller cottages. It still had two bedrooms. One with a double bed and the other one with two single beds.
The bathroom was fully equipped and we preferred to use the shower instead of the bathtub.
The main room was divided in two sections - the cozy living area with a nice carpet and the kitchen.
Satellite TV and (at this time) a video recorder were standard in all cottages, same as a gas fired furnace, which we loved during our visit in winter.
Each cottage had its own porch which gave you the feeling to sit outside when you opened the windows. Please make sure that the screens are in place. Otherwise you have to fight with lots of bloodthirsty little creatures. We learned vet fast not leave any doors open
Rockview camp has a little store which offers only a few essentials. If you want to prepare your own breakfast or meals you have to go shopping in one of the nearby villages or even in North Bay.
You must not be afraid that the food gets bad. A large refrigerator with a freezer compartment keeps everything cold - including the beer.
In front of the every cottage you will find a barbecue and it always fun to barbecue some good meat or a fish, which you caught during the day.
All kitchen utensils are provided, same as pillows and sheets for the beds. However, you must bring your own towels.

When you move into the cottage everything is in place and spotless. The Swiss owners will never do it differently.
During your stay all the cleaning is up to you. Please take your shoes off when you enter the cottage. You do this also when you are invited to somebodies house. It is like in Japan.
Use the vacuum cleaner when cleaning is needed.
You must also not be afraid that any sewage is spilled into the lake. The water is clean. The tab water comes from the lake and is chlorinated. We used it for coffee or tea, but purchased also bottled water.

Naturally, you have neighbors. During our stay it was very quiet. There were two fisherman from the USA. They left early in the morning with their boat and returned late.
I was told that no noise is allowed after 10:00 pm.
If you want to try fishing you can purchase a permit in the camp - but please familiarize yourself with the regulations. There are controls and any violation of existing restrictions is not cheap!
You can also rent a boat in the Rockview Camp. Because we are for a long time friend with the owners, they invited us to an exciting tour, when my parents in law came one time with us to this resort.
We never would have found the beautiful places without that.
I am confident that André or Susanne, the owner, will help you with good advice. |
