Many thanks to MapArt for allowing us to use their maps
Port Colborne is similar to Fort Erie located on the North shore of Lake Erie.
The Welland Canal which connects Lake Ontario with Lake Erie ends here. It is always a highlight when one of the big boats passes through this waterway so close that you can touch or push it - but you should not do that!.
In Port Colborne you find a huge parking lot close to the lift bridge. Just stop and watch the boats. It is impressing.
Whenever we have guests with us we show them this spectacular attraction and most of them take pictures or even videos.
It is impressive to watch a big boat squeezing through the narrow canal
Please, when you drive through Port Colborne, leave Highway 3 and explore this fast developing cozy town. You must drive towards the lake to find all the attractions.
You will discover a little museum, interesting stores, restaurants and a section which became a designated tourist area with boutiques, more restaurants and nice sights on the canal and the boats.
Port Colborne is an attractive little town
Port Colborne has a huge modern marina as well as some beaches for swimming and relaxing - "Sherkston" and "Nickel Beach".
For us Europeans it is always a surprise that you can drive with your vehicle almost directly to the water front and the noise level when occasionally some youngster turn up their ghetto blasters to full power to compete against each other. This was chasing me away immediately.
It was for us much nicer when friends took us out with their comfortable boat and we could go swimming from there in the clear water.

Launching a boat is easy when you can do it like that
Many smaller events take place in Port Colborne and so far we liked all which we had visited. Please find the official web site to see exact dates and always collect printed information. We cannot keep our web site up to date and we want to reduce the free promotion of business to a minimum.
Various ethnic groups present their music and songs
The Port Colborne Historical and Marine Museum
When I was touring our area with my father in law we had occasionally breakfast at this place and we enjoyed the sights
Every year a mayor event is celebrated in Port Colborne - the "Canal Days".
2009 we decided to prepare a brief web site to show you what to expect. Just use the provided link!
If you are in our area when this event takes place (end of July) please do not miss it. There is so much to see and to do.
The main attraction are the "Tall Ships" and the offered cruises on Lake Erie and trough the Welland Canal.
Having seen too many pirate movies I personally was a little bit disappointed about the size of the "tall" ships.

We recommend again not to travel on main highways. Drive along Lake Erie in direction towards Long Beach. Visit Port Maitland where the Grand River ends at the lake.
We have started with the design of a web site which describes a tour along the north shore of Lake Erie. Because of financial restraints it is not yet completed.
If you want more action check whether in Humberstone, Port Colborne, one of the "Speedway Dirt Track Racings" is scheduled. In the mid eighties some of our European friends where so fascinated that they purchased old cars and participated.
