Unfortunately, we never were able to explore the "True North" of Ontario. Because, we never received any support with images or maps, we decided to visit Newfoundland-Labrador. They helped us with free advice, contacts to places which we wanted to visit and images. I wish the officials from Ontario would be willing to learn.
However, we do not want to put the friendly and good people from Ontario in the same pot as those experts for tourism. Whenever, we are able we will visit this beautiful part of our province.
Eventually, we can make it this year to Manitoulin Island.

In a cottage resort on Lake Nipissing

On Lake Nipissing

We stayed a few times in a little cottage resort from friends. We had a good time there in winter with ice fishing and in summer with swimming and sightseeing.
I will prepare an English variant of our German web site what we experienced in summer. This may help you to decide where to stay and do the required booking in time.
For us it was always an unforgettable experience, but I cannot remember any longer all the hotels in which I stayed.

For rent

Many little encounters and trips were the highlights for us as well as for other guests.
We went out to purchase a huge amount of peanuts to feed the friendly chipmunks. They collected the nuts in their mouth and carried them to a hidden storage place. I was amazed - up to 5 peanuts with shells.
It was always a pleasure to watch them. The owners of the resort told us, that a little girl had sent them a five dollar bill to buy peanuts for her friends.
During our last visit almost no chipmunks showed up. Feral cats or other predators obviously considered chipmunks as delicatessen.
There should also a spay neuter program in place to limit the size of feral cat colonies.
To save our little friends, Elizabeth would certainly have bought lots of cat food.

A boat tour on the "South River" which we accessed from Lake Nipissing

Lake Nipissing is very shallow. Our host and guide observed most of the time the fathometer. It was a wonderful tour.
Without our friends from the cottage resort, we would never have had this exciting tour.

On the "South River"

André, our Swiss host drove very slowly in order not to disturb the birds which we wanted to see. We saw a blue heron and many others.
We had beautiful weather and admired every evening the sunsets.

Sunset at Lake Nipissing

We did little tours with our car to visit places close by. Nothing was stressful or expensive. A small museum where we were the only visitors. A store were we purchased local honey, a nice lunch - and nature.

Another lake

You can have a great time here

The cottages are well equipped and cozy. Even in winter we came for ice fishing we did not miss anything.
It was always quiet, no noisy neighbors, no traffic and everywhere friendly people.
I can understand our friends who gave up well paid jobs in Switzerland to live here.
