We try to give you with our travel guide an impression of our province. We showed you already some events and activities. We describe various cities, townships, villages as well a few of the numerous attractions. We point out things which may be different than in your home country - we try to cover little by little all major tourism related highlights of our province.
We believe this is mandatory for planing a vacation - especially when you come from overseas. This is the way which we choose to attract people. That they need accommodation and food is understood. We offer reasonable rates for advertising in our travel guide, but we will not recommend any restaurants or places to stay.
In this site we show you scenery and interesting encounters from our trips through Ontario. Most of the pictures speak for themselves. We will add updates whenever we experienced something new.
Fort Erie - at the lake
Combatants are taking a break at an event in Fort Erie
So far I did not discover a single good hotel with an own beach and a good view to the lake. Hotels are normally built on highways and close to shopping centers in the Niagara Region.
However, I have seen old pictures that they had such a place in Fort Erie which was a well known attraction. Now we have casinos and other gambling attractions.
Lake Erie
The great lakes are certainly one of the major attractions which nature offers. Many Canadians built their houses or cottages on the shores of them or close by.
The draw back for visitors is, that free access to the beach is limited. The best places to enjoy the water are the Provincial Parks.
In the meantime, I am not any longer jealous of people who can live close to the water, because I learned that occasionally rotting seaweed produces a sickening smell and winter storms can cause serious damage to the houses.

I love it quiet and Elizabeth is also calming down. She loves to lay in the sun and to read. I am looking for shade, but most of the time we can find a compromise.
Because Lake Erie is very shallow the water warms up very fast.
Beach at Lake Erie in Crystal Beach - I hope it will not replaced by apartment buildings or homes
All the official talk about promoting tourism, but without knowing how! Selling the property brings certainly money, cleaning up the lake costs money and the votes of home owners on the shores of the lake who do not want to be connected to the sewage system are important to get re-elected.
Luckily, we have the beautiful provincial parks.
Visit our site about the park at Selkirk. We enjoyed it much more than the few public beaches. Rent a boat and explore the marsh.

Lake Erie at Crystal Beach during winter. Here was the amusement park!
Many local people are distressed by the loss of the amusement park. I am not. Most of Crystal Beach became a disaster area and was not any longer a place to show to any visitor who paid lots of money to visit the Niagara Peninsula.
Slowly Crystal Beach is recovering and I am sure it will become an attraction again when the public beach will not be replaced by more buildings and proper long term planing is done.
