The Siege of Fort Erie has been better advertised. It is an annual event which brings back the attempt of the British to reconquer the Fort which was occupied by American troops.
Visit our special web site and watch the video which we too a few years ago.
It is worth to stay for a weekend in Fort Erie to watch the battle, participate in a "Lantern Tour", join the next day a memorial service and watch another battle.

All expenses, such as travel costs, uniforms, weapons, gun powder are paid by the volunteers. Not a cheap hobby!
They com from all over Canada and the USA and stay in two separate camps.
Walk through the camps. Everybody is friendly and helpful.
I was pleased to see children having fun wearing costumes and playing almost forgotten outdoor games instead of watching TV or using an electronic toy.
I think I would enjoy it too to "fight" for one side and make friends with other participants.
Especially the part where everybody prepares food and shares it in a common dinner is certainly an attraction to me.
A good restaurant in a historical style and an old fashioned menu is missing - at least for me! We found that in Germany, why not also in Fort Erie?

A wounded soldier is treated (Lantern tour)

After the battle a &quut;Lantern Tour" was offered through the fort. Please participate if it is still part of the program.
It gives an idea what after the fighting has ended.

You can already see that Ontario is neither boring nor dreary during summer. Just get actual information at any tourist office.
Soon you will also be aware that we have many immigrants here. Most of them were willing to become a part of our society and keep our country going.
Ethnic groups add lots of flavor when they perform as a choir or offer their food during events.

I visited a multi cultural event in Port Colborne. It was a big event with lots of food, music, singing and dancing.

Just experience some foreign culture and see how successful integration can be. I think other nations can learn from us.
I was so happy when an old church was converted in a great place where local artists could perform. I also purchased delicatessen there.
Unfortunately the owner had health problems and he had to close this place. I miss to go there every week.
