Oakville is located between Toronto and Hamilton directly on Lake Ontario. Oakville is a wealthy town which preserved many good things from the past. You will not become aware of this if you travel on the "QEW" - you must visit the city.
Oakville has a variety of interesting museums. Please get a free of charge visitors guide and check especially for events. I believe that almost everybody will find things in which he is interested.
Also galleries attract many visitors interested in art.
Oakville is also attracting potential shoppers as I learned by watching Elizabeth, my wife. Sometimes I think she and her mom are "born to shop". I only go shopping when I need something - for them it is entertainment.
If we go together I am normally rewarded after a more or less successful shopping tour with a good meal in a restaurant. This happened also in Oakville.
Downtown Oakville is really attractive
Especially antiques fascinate Elizabeth
As you see. This time she did not buy anything
I wish more cities would have such a downtown area
I had later a hard time to decide where to eat. There are so many interesting restaurants! I love Thai or Japanese food. Elizabeth is less exotic - she is a poor eater.
Having lived and worked in Germany for many years I know that most of the foreign dishes are "Canadianized". Nobody in Europe would order a "Wiener Schnitzel" with Sauerkraut and Spätzle or dumplings. A Greek gyros is something completely different than this terrible thing made of processed meat.
So we ended in an original Canadian restaurant.
There is no lack of offered accommodations. Normally we prefer b 7 b but for a change we also love a good hotel with a swimming pool.
Please carry your business card with you and ask for a cooperate rate. Don't be ashamed! Look how all the big companies try to save every cent.
Oakville has a beautiful beach.
Don't miss to go there - not necessarily for swimming but for a walk and to take pictures.

Enjoy the sights
Oakville is located in the heart of the so called "Halton Region" with all its conservation areas:
Kelsol Glen Eden
Crawford Lake>
Mountsberg
Rattlesnake Point
Hilton Falls
Mount Nemo
Hopefully you have enough time to visit at least a few of them.
We always advise visitors to use Highway 2 when they have to travel between Oakville and Burlington. Just watch the houses on the lake front! Many of our European friends wanted to live like that in Canada!
