Mattawa is located on the Ottawa River.
Most things which we recommend to the visitors of our web site are also practiced by us.
We want to see and learn as much as possible about the area which we visit without ending in a stress situation. Talking to the local people is very essential to get tips what to do and what to see.
Our visit to Mattawa was based on such recommendations and it was very relaxing but too short.
Mattawa has a population of about 2500. For this part of Ontario that means it is big which is in addition proven by the fact that it has a hospital.

We certainly want to return to Mattawa. Then we will stay over night to have more time to explore everything.
On the top of our activity list will be a day tour with the "Timber Train" Unfortunately, the operating company faced serious financial problems and probably we must cancel this project.

The museum displays many original items used by the natives as well as scenes from the live of the first pioneers and art from local artisans, minerals etc.

Don't forget to collect the most actual tourist information. Everybody will gladly help you also with advice for accommodations, eventually even on a houseboat.
Visit the "Canadian Ecology Centre" which is located on Hwy 17 West.
