If you arrive from the south you arrive first in Lakefield. The picture on the right side gives you an impression of the scenery. The area is known as "Kawartha".
Children of well known people are students in the shown college. Everybody was extremely friendly during our brief visit even when we do not have any children in this age.
Lakefield has a population of approximately 2500. It is the local center.
Short cruises are offered in Lakefield as well as in Young Point.
The College in Lakefield
As you can see Lakefield is a great attraction in fall
Unfortunately, we had to drive back on the same day
Lakefield is nestled on Lake Katchewanooka in the Kawarthas. We could only admire this lake. Summer was already gone and the water was even for me too cold for swimming. In addition the weather was changing from sunshine to overcast and then to very cloudy as you can see in the pictures in the left column.
There were only a few other visitors because the leaves were just beginning to change their colors. A few days later this will be the main attraction for many nature lovers.
Our time was extremely limited because we had to return to Welland on the same day. So we did not have a chance to check for events which take place in the fall season.
We would have loved to stay longer. Please use the Internet to find out details about events. We cannot do this and the required actualization in our little travel guide. So far we did not get any support from the tourist industry and I am not any longer interested to do work for free for any business.
We proceeded after our visit of Lakefield to the Stoney Lake - often written also Stony Lake. Once we did advertising for the well known "Pine Vista Resort". This resort is open all year long.
Stoney Lake - many thanks to "P199" and Wikipedia
Burleigh Falls is a tiny hamlet wit a population of about 95.
Visit the rapids between "Lake Lovesick" and "Stoney Lake". They are a challenge for many kayak fanatics.
Watch them in real and the video below to see what to expect if you want to try it by yourself.
