Selkirk Provincial Park to Long Point Provincial Park
Many thanks to MapArt for allowing us to use their maps
Unfortunately we cannot show all the secret paths which we used to explore our area. Please use also "Google Earth". You can download this program for free and it is fun to use.
Otherwise look for street signs when you travel.
When you are in Selkirk you will see a mighty coal fired power plant. At first I was afraid about pollution and bad smells. So far I never saw dark smoke coming out of the chimneys or could smell anything.
I am sure that we need coal fired power plants with state-of-of-the-art technology as long as we do not have anything better in place.
I was glad to see that finally wind power finds slowly its place in Ontario.
The beach in Port Dover with a nice seafood restaurant in the background
One of the interesting looking restaurants - however, we never tried it!!
Please do not use the power plant as an excuse not to stay in this beautiful part of Ontario.
The rotting algae in certain areas of the lake are much worse. The smell made us almost sick.
Port Dover is a very pretty town which we have included in our Internet travel guide. It has lots of history.
Please use also the link about a historical trip from Port Dover to Amherstburg.
When we were in Port Dover it as very relaxing at the beach. The owners of powerboats and Sea-Doos" did not disturb the swimmers.
The owners love them - but not necessarily swimmers and fishermen
Almost like in Italy but not as crowded
Stay on the road which snakes along the lake. Whenever possible make little detours to Lake Erie, even when a sign says "No Exit". You may discover something interesting.
You will find something like that only when you follow posted signs.
"Turkey Point" is a relatively small village with the well known "Turkey Point Provincial Park". It offers accommodation for campers and sites for motor homes.
A sandy beach with the length of about 2 km is part of the park.
So far, we never have stayed in the park. Please visit the official site for more information.
Naturally, also other accommodation is available. However, advanced booking is certainly required. There is no lack of restaurants.
When I drove through Turkey Point on July 1. 2009 and mid of August 2010 I could not see any vacancies.
You may be lucky in one of the surrounding villages.
Nice houses and cottages very close to the beach in Turkey Point
The beach on Lake Erie
Not yet crowded!
The water was obviously still too cold for most of the visitors.

You will find "Booth's Harbour" in St. Williams at the "Inner Bay". It is a large marina which attracts many boaters.
If you want to ride a "Sea Doo" - they offer a rental service.

Please explore Port Rowan. Please check our brief web site for this attractive little town.
Finally, I was able to visit the "Ice Cream Parlour". I am addicted to good ice cream and I loved the place.
As you can see, they offer a very wide variety of different flavors.
I caused a small confusion when I ordered some different flavors which is very common in Europe.
I also could not see my favorites bowls of ice cream in decorative bowls with fruits and some taste improver (Liqueur!) But it is a very good beginning and I will come back.
Port Rowan - book a boat tour
The Ice Cream Parlour in Port Rowan
We already have been a couple of times in "Long Point Provincial Park". One time in winter and also in summer, but unfortunately always only a few hours.
We are not any longer campers and we do not own a motor home. Our plan is to stay in close by Port Rowan and spend all day long in this beautiful park.
There a sand dunes as I know them from Germany on the Northern sea but the water is much warmer.
I got my last impression in August 2010. There is even a special parking spot just for visitors who will stay only for the days and it is very close to the beach. I will prepare a brief web site.
More information will follow later after we have proceeded with our tour.!
