The Heidelberg Rheingold Singers are a local choir which performs since years in retirement homes in the Niagara Region to bring some enjoyment and entertainment to their residents. Despite the German name many of the choir members are not of German descent - even when most of their songs are German.
Music and singing unites people from all over the world.
For example, my wife Elizabeth was born in Fort Erie. We got married in Germany and returned after one year because of my job.
Others are also English speaking or Franco Canadians. Others were born in Hungary or in other countries. They all share the love to music and having fun doing so.
It is always a big reward when they perform in the public and see how the audience enjoys their performance as it did here in the beautiful Portal Village in Port Colborne.
A part of the dining room.
Because I am born to eat I studied todays menu and was impressed. There was even a choice between different meals.
When I talked to some of the seniors they all liked it here and also the staff was really happy to work in such an environment and I could see how they cared about the residents when they needed help.
The events of this day were announced on a board.
After a heartily welcome, Dieter the choir director brought the choir to live. His joyful jokes caught immediately the heart of the audience.

Please watch our video about this enjoyable event at the Portal Village in Port Colborne. I filmed it not with a video camera but with my older Panasonic digital camera. You cannot use a zoom function during recording - the newer ones allow that. |
