Overview Map of the Getaway Country
We love to visit the "Getaway Country". On business we have been there several times. Now we have changed what we are doing and do not travel any longer so much in Ontario. But we will come back to relax in the beautiful nature, visit some of the local events, do more sightseeing and hopefully can enjoy swimming.
"Getaway Country" is less populated than the southern part of Ontario. This is an attraction when you come from a densely populated country like Germany. You find here much more of what you expect from Canada.
Unfortunately all the promises that Ontario welcomes visitors all year long proofed to be wrong. When we visited the beautiful part of Ontario most of the attractions were closed. This happened also when friends of us came for a visit in the Niagara Region.
The mill in the "Lang Pioneer Village" close to Keene
The "Lang Pioneer Village" was closed and we werfe disappointed
The "Lang Pioneer Village"
The "Lang Pioneer Village" would certainly be an attraction- not only to Europeans
We always recommend to avoid Highway 401 as much as possible when on a leisurely trip. The country roads are saver and better for sightseeing. We always discovered some eye catching scenery.
The "Warsaw Caves"
Close to Peterborough - fall can be beautiful here

The "Rice Lake"
You can see the "Rice Lake" in the background. It was already late and we were heading home and did not want to spend the money for an other night in an accommodation.
This lake is part of the "Trent-Severn Waterway" which we always wanted to explore with a boat trip. Unfortunately, our income by designing web sited in German and English and offering advertising does not bring the required cash flow to do this.
Many thanks for this picture of the "Rice Lake" to "Northumberland Tourism"
