Cobourg in Ontario has contacts to Cobourg in Germany. Our Cobourg is smaller - it has only a population of about 18 500. The German Cobourg has about 26 000 and this without the communities which are now part of the town.
When we visited our Cobourg I had the impression that the town is doing pretty well. Some new companies just settled here.
Early in the morning in downtown
Cobourg is an attraction - not only for us, also for other visitors because of the many heritage buildings.
One of them is the "Victoria Hall" which you can see in the background.
Slowly more and more cities in Canada become aware that these old structures add a special flavor especially to downtown and help to attract tourists. Some cities even lower the taxes to help the owners to maintain those houses.
Naturally people who pay full taxes do not like that and in our city the decision is used during the elections of a new major and a new city council. I support the idea as long as the tax benefits are tied to certain regulations how to maintain these buildings.
I am convinced that a normal citizen will spend money much more careful than bureaucrats. We have enough proof for that!
Great people lived here - compare the size to Elizabeth

The "Victoria Hall" is one of the many attractions in Cobourg. Today it is used as town hall and as a gallery.
Visit the beach and the promenade there. On certain days there will be concerts in the "Victoria Park". Enjoy the clean air and have a good meal after. I want to visit a Swiss restaurant if we come back - I miss the European cuisine.

I would love to stay here for a few days to explore the surroundings again. You learn much more about a country or a region by doing so and I do not like to find every day a new accommodation.
We always got good advise from the local people which also helped me to save money. We did this in Newfoundland-Labrador and in Germany.
Very often we found so excellent restaurants which offered better food than really expensive ones.
Use coupons to save money on entrance fees. Don't be ashamed - even big companies are trying to minimize their expenses.
If you run out of ideas what to do just relax and do nothing or read a book, watch the sea gulls. This should always be an essential part of real vacations to gain power for the time after.
The " Northumberland County" in Ontario is one of the best places to do this all year long. For that reason we want to come back! There is still so much to see what we missed and this time I will save all our pictures on a memory stick and not on a second hard drive.
