Pils beer

Description:

In Germany you do not get free ice water served. Many people drink mineral water and you can order it in most restaurants. It is not cheap.
Beer is still very popular and it fits much better to the rich Thuringian food. Shown is a typical serving of Pils beer.
Watch how much you drink if you have to drive. The laws are very strict!

Rotkäppchen Sekt

Description:

A sparkling wine which was very popular in the former GDR and today also in the western part of Germany. I enjoyed several times a tiny little bottle in the evening after lunch. Not expensive, refreshing and the dry version suitable for people with diabetes.

Change your mind about "Continental breakfast". I want to know how the person looks like who hates the Europeans so much that he created this term for what you get in North America. I asked not to add muesli and fresh fruits because I ate too much the night before.

Even in Thuringia you can order a special "breakfast" for dinner. Our business partner was obviously on a diet because he did not want the potatoes who come normally with this small piece of breaded pork.

Pork is very popular in many European countries. especially after the problems with BSE.
Shown is typical Thuringian variant of a breaded pork schnitzel. It is a normal Schnitzel served with a good tasting creamy mushroom sauce. You can also order it without sauce. Some places offer it with a fried egg on top instead of the sauce.
