Pils beer

Description:

In Germany you do not get free ice water served. Many people drink mineral water and you can order it in most restaurants. It is not cheap.
Beer is still very popular and it fits much better to the rich Thuringian food. Shown is a typical serving of Pils beer.
Watch how much you drink if you have to drive. The laws are very strict!

Have you ever tried Ukrainian beer? Go to a Russian restaurant and do it.

Rotkäppchen Sekt

A sparkling wine which was very popular in the former GDR and today also in the western part of Germany. I enjoyed several times a tiny little bottle in the evening after lunch. Not expensive, refreshing and the dry version suitable for people with diabetes.

Aquavit

Description:

Be careful when you go into that! Don't drive, and watch your steps!

Frühstück (Continental breakfast)

Description:

Change your mind about "Continental breakfast". I want to know how the person looks like who hates the Europeans so much that he created this term for what you get in North America. I asked not to add muesli and fresh fruits because I ate too much the night before.

Bauernfrühstück (Farmer's breakfast with a special sauce)

Even in Thuringia you can order a special "breakfast" for dinner. Our business partner was obviously on a diet because he did not want the potatoes who come normally with this small piece of breaded pork.

Schweineschnitzel mit Champignon Rahmsauce und Kroketten (breaded pork schnitzel with a creamy mushroom sauce and croquettes)

As you can see Thuringia is "Schnitzel country".

Schweineschnitzel mit Spiegelei, Spargel und Kartoffeln (breaded pork schnitzel with fried egg, white asparagus and boiled potatoes)
